Animation & ROI

When deciding to produce an animated video for marketing or training purposes, one of the most important considerations is the expected ROI… the always important Return on Investment. With the vast variety of animation styles, animated videos can be produced for a wide range of budget ranges.

3D animations with sophisticated and complex scenes will certainly be on the higher end of that budget scale. 2D animated video presentations, such as white board style videos require less production time. And, of course, there’s a bunch of options in the middle of those two ends of the complexity spectrum.

No matter what style of animated video you elect to go with, it’s vital to get the biggest “bang for the buck.” We have clients that have produced animated videos for their products 5-6 years ago, and are still utilizing them in their marketing.

For instance, in early April, we visited a client at a trade show in Chicago, and their featured animated video was the animation we produced for them in 2011! We’ve produced several other industry-specific animations for this client since that 2011 production, but this animation was still serving it’s purpose 8 years after being produced, and still getting the results they demand.

Besides longevity, using animated videos in a variety of manners is another way to add to the ROI. Using animations at trade shows draw attention to the booth, using animated videos on the product / company website gets prospective clients to stay on your site longer. Using animated graphics in presentations…. PowerPoint, Webinars, Sales presentations… again, all very powerful ways to maximize your ROI in a short amount of time.

Animation for Stationary Products

It’s easy to envision how animation can be utilized in marketing a product that has a lot of motion involved with it — whether the motion is functionality, or the installation process.  But, what about those great products that serve a great purpose, but don’t seem to lend themselves well to using animation?

Ecotec’s energy efficient industrial battery charger is a great example of such a situation. This charger offers flexibility, wireless communications and controls, and energy efficiency — but, there’s not any physical motion involved in it’s operation.  Utilizing 3D animation, motion can be added using camera motion, creative views, and animated titles to grab and keep the viewer’s attention.

The animated video was recently released at a trade show, and served their booth with engaging visuals and talking points.  Take a quick look at this completed project at the link below, to see how even a non-moving product can benefit from animation.
